This privacy policy explains how personal data is handled when you use Progressive Workouts for iOS, Progressive Workouts for Android, or Progressive Workouts Pro for Android (collectively, the “Apps”), visit this website, make a purchase, or contact us.

Advertising in the ad-supported Apps is provided by Google AdMob. Learn how Google processes personal information. See section 4 for the data involved and how to manage your privacy choices.

2. Workout data stored on your device

The Apps store the workout information you enter, such as routines, exercises, sets, repetitions, weights, durations, and progress, locally on your device. We do not operate an account service or a server that receives this workout database. The data may be included in device backups managed by your operating-system provider under your settings and its privacy terms.

On Android, Progressive Workouts Pro offers an import function that can copy workout data from the free Android App on the same device. This transfer takes place locally between the two Apps and is not sent to us.

On iOS, if you choose to export workout data or share a progress image, the App prepares the file on your device and lets you choose a destination through the system share sheet. The recipient or service you choose processes that file under its own privacy terms. Files that you export may remain outside the App after you delete its local data.

You can change or delete workout data in the Apps. Deleting an App removes its locally stored data from the device, subject to any device backup you have enabled.

3. Product analytics (iOS and Android Free from version 1.14.0)

The iOS App and Android Free from version 1.14.0 use TelemetryDeck to understand use of core features and improve the Apps. The provider is TelemetryDeck GmbH, Von-der-Tann-Str. 54, 86159 Augsburg, Germany. Progressive Workouts Pro for Android does not use TelemetryDeck. Android Free versions before 1.14.0 do not include this integration and do not send these analytics events.

Events and workout information

Events describe actions such as opening a routine, starting a workout, saving its first set, reaching a workout-progress threshold, explicitly completing a workout, creating content, viewing progress, or opening the Pro offer. Where available on iOS, events also describe purchases, opening feedback, and use of progress sharing and CSV export. Android records opening the Pro listing, not whether a purchase was completed.

Event parameters include categories such as routine type and exercise mode, controlled keys for bundled routines and progressions, and broad ranges for workout duration, planned set counts and completion progress. User-created content is represented as “custom”, not by its name. Workout lifecycle events include a randomly generated identifier for that workout session so its start and progress can be associated.

We do not send user-entered routine, progression or exercise names, descriptions, individual repetitions, weights, hold times, exact workout durations, email addresses, or the contents of exported files or shared images to TelemetryDeck.

Identifiers and technical information

TelemetryDeck also processes SDK-generated identifiers and technical app, device and session information, including app and operating-system versions and device model. We do not supply an account login or email address as an analytics identifier.

In Android Free from version 1.14.0, the SDK stores a random installation identifier on the device and sends a hashed form of it, together with an app-session identifier. These are separate from the workout-session identifier described above. Unsent events may be cached locally for later transmission over an encrypted connection.

The Android SDK also adds app build and installation-source information, device and screen characteristics, language, region and time-zone settings, the local date and hour of events, and certain display and accessibility settings, such as text size, colour preferences and reduced-motion settings. The available fields depend on the device and Android version.

The Android SDK automatically records installation and app-session events and adds usage information such as the first-use date, session counts, days used, and previous or average app-session duration. These app-session durations are distinct from our broad workout-duration ranges and can have finer precision. Android events are also transmitted with a timestamp that is not rounded to an hour by the SDK.

Purpose and privacy choices

We use product analytics to understand and improve the Apps, not for advertising or cross-app or cross-website profiling. Advertising privacy choices and product analytics are separate. In Android Free from version 1.14.0, analytics starts when the app process starts, independently of the advertising choice. There is currently no in-app switch to disable these analytics in Android Free.

According to TelemetryDeck, its analytics servers do not store IP addresses and its analytics infrastructure is hosted in the European Union. This does not mean that an IP address is absent from the network connection used to send events.

The processing serves our legitimate interest in measuring and improving the App while collecting as little data as possible (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may object by contacting us. Further information is available in TelemetryDeck’s Privacy FAQ and Privacy Policy.

4. Advertising and consent management

The free versions of the Apps may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. We use Google’s User Messaging Platform (“UMP”) to obtain and store privacy choices where required and to determine whether ads may be requested. The relevant Google entity for users in the European Economic Area and Switzerland is generally Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

Depending on your region, privacy choices and the applicable platform rules, Google may process your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and app information, interactions with the App or ads, diagnostic and performance information, and permitted identifiers to deliver and measure ads, protect against fraud and abuse, and personalize ads where enabled and permitted. This can include using IP addresses for ad measurement and personalization. Where consent is required, these uses depend on your consent. Declining personalized advertising does not necessarily mean that no ads are shown or that no data is processed to deliver permitted ads.

The iOS App does not request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission and does not intentionally access the advertising identifier (IDFA). On Android, Google’s Mobile Ads SDK may collect the Android advertising ID, app set ID, and other device identifiers as permitted by the platform, device settings, and your privacy choices. The Android advertising ID can be reset or deleted in the Android settings. Google may also use app-specific identifiers where permitted. If consent is required, advertising is requested only when the UMP consent state permits it.

Where consent is legally required, the processing is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can review or change applicable choices using “Privacy Options” in User Settings on iOS, or “Update consent to personalized Ads” in Settings on Android Free, when the privacy form is available in your region. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal. Otherwise, processing necessary to provide and secure ads is based on our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. Purchases through Apple and Google Play

In-app purchases in the iOS App are handled by Apple’s App Store. Progressive Workouts Pro for Android is sold as a separate paid App through Google Play, which handles its purchase and download. We do not receive your payment-card or bank-account details. Apple and Google process transaction and account information under their own privacy terms. The iOS App receives the product and transaction status necessary to provide the purchased feature or tip and to restore purchases.

A successful purchase in the iOS App also generates a TelemetryDeck event containing only the broad product category (for example, remove ads or a tip size), as described in section 3. Android Free from version 1.14.0 may record opening the Pro offer and its Google Play listing; these events do not confirm a purchase. Android Pro does not use TelemetryDeck. The legal basis for purchase processing is performance of the purchase contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and compliance with legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

6. Feedback and email

If you use a feedback button in an App, the App asks your selected email application to prepare a message. No email is sent automatically. If you send it, we process your email address, message, and any information you voluntarily include in order to answer and provide support. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request concerns a contract, and otherwise our legitimate interest in responding to users (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete support correspondence when it is no longer required, unless statutory retention duties apply.

7. Website access

When you access this website, the hosting infrastructure may temporarily process technical request data required to deliver and secure the site, such as IP address, requested page, time, browser, operating system, referrer, and response status. This is based on our legitimate interest in providing a stable and secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log data is deleted when it is no longer needed for operation and security, unless an incident requires longer retention. This website does not use TelemetryDeck or advertising cookies.

8. Recipients, transfers, and retention

Data is disclosed only to the providers described above and to technical service providers where necessary. TelemetryDeck states that App analytics usage data is stored in the European Union. Google may process data in countries outside the European Economic Area. Where required, Google relies on approved safeguards for such transfers; details are available in Google’s privacy documentation.

Local App data remains until you delete it or the App, subject to backups. Analytics, consent, advertising, and transaction data are retained according to the purposes and settings described above, provider terms, and applicable legal retention periods. We retain data under our control only as long as necessary for its stated purpose.

Deleting local App data does not automatically delete analytics events already transmitted to TelemetryDeck. TelemetryDeck’s Privacy FAQ does not specify a binding deletion schedule for archived analytics events and states that analytics data is retained when a publisher closes its account. Uninstalling an App therefore does not imply deletion of previously transmitted analytics events.

9. Your rights

Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, you may request access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), or object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time with future effect. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

We may update this privacy policy when the Apps, providers, or legal requirements change. The current version and update date are published on this page.
